Last Thursday, January 26, 2012, a broadsheet newspaper The Philippine Star has posted a breaking news in its Entertainment section that Happy Yipee Yehey will end its airing by February 4, 2012. The main reason: the recent noontime TV show of ABS-CBN has not gained TV household count in time of self-firing of controversial noontime TV host Willie Revillame in 2010 as a result of premature ending of Wowowee, and its successor, Pilipinas Win Na Win, was not also successful.

Someone thought that both the fans—mostly poor people—of Willie watching current nightly show of aforementioned male host on TV5 and the loyal televiewer of Eat Bulaga on GMA-7 may not welcome to watch Happy Yipee Yehey. Why? Not only popularity may be the issue in spite of lack of exposure and energetic lucid jokes of the show just as Eat Bulaga did, but rather a morality and sensitivity of the content would be the root of the issue. This was the main reason in the past why they refuse to watch Magandang Tanghali Bayan in 4th quarter of 1990s because of scandalous situation of the show such as Willie’s rude joke resulting from censorship class suit of MTRCB.

The ABS-CBN management has often felt their comfort zone on such situation. Even their other daytime TV shows has also affected on the drop of TV household count in entire Mega Manila and the Philippines—though their nightly TV shows remain high—in time of Willie’s absence as a result of the fact that some former loyal ABS-CBN televiers on Class C, D, and E households would miss so much without him. Therefore the network would re-adjust the schedule to air both recent and brand new daytime TV shows to give delight to their loyal televiewers—including the reformat of Showtime (starting on February 6, 2012) from being a former morning ”interactive talent program” to become a substitute as “a noontime variety show”—in spite of their threat of uprising TV household count of various daytime GMA-7 TV shows such as blocktime movies, Asianovelas, and even a “little trashy quality” local daytime drama.

Until that time, host John Estrada has announced via a cue on the show Happy Yipee Yehey that “ABS-CBN won’t stop promoting their future ABS-CBN (daytime) shows” to all kababayans not only in Mega Manila (for whom they are still watching free-to-air GMA Channel 7 due to their curiosity of clear video signal by means of strong analog TV transmission) but also all parts of the Philippines “in order to give a new hope” for their financial needs by means of game segment of their future noontime show. ABS-CBN has often learned on the statement of “Big Brother”, in January 28, 2012 episode of Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited, saying that every person must know the true reality of the situation “between life and survival”, and so they did based on their own scientific social issues since “they become sensitive and smarter wanting lucid TV shows”.

But in spite of never-ending rants of loyal televiers of GMA-7 belonging to entire Mega Manila and some key provincial areas against ABS-CBN for “being irresponsible” as posted on the Comments at the bottom of entire article of PEP.ph, the TV network w0uld take a long time to heal their pain and trials in order to regain the support of the number of people watching on TV, only if they would regain their ethical standards from Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP). They promised that producing high quality standard of their current and future TV shows would become stronger on the next level.

I, even the fans of aforementioned artist of this blog, often missed to watch Sarah Geronimo’s TV appearance on ABS-CBN, but now I thought that she would have threatened to erode her exposure on the eyes of the public this 2012.

Remember when her musical drama IDOL in 2010 was not yet successful to gain TV audience count in Mega Manila as well as nationwide TV households. Even her recent TV performance in Sunday noontime musical variety show ASAP (stands for “All Star Afternoon Party”) was not yet also gaining TV households and TV audience count in Mega Manila when she was started to appear in 2004. Though her past two musical drama soaps based on movie adaptation such as Bituing Walang Ningning and Pangarap Na Butuin were partly successful to wow every televiewer masses.

The future regain of Sarah Geronimo’s TV appearance on ABS-CBN would not be so easy. Though she have had several TV ads being aired for her appearance as well as her recent airing of her hit love song on FM radio, that would not yet fully aware of her while they watch only other TV channels rather than to tune-in to free-to-air analog TV Channel 2 in Mega Manila. But then there were some root of other reason about her decline of TV exposure, mainly a loyal televiewer of GMA-7 in household and even a rampant outdoor TV viewing of Channel 7 causing a few bias of TV surveying.

But before the end of January of 2012 the “official camp” of Sarah Geronimo under a close affiliation between ABS-CBN and Viva Entertainment has announced that she would introduce her solo televised studio-concert performance every Sunday night to be replaced by Gandang Gabi Vice. Her regular TV appearance of ASAP would be leave momentarily giving a way for such TV project that would likely compete with a televised Valentine concert of Charice Pempengco every one-week-night of February on GMA-7 this 2012, just as introduced back in 2011.

On flashback, ABS-CBN News had reported that “she was already signed a one-year exclusive contract,” as I thought that “the move was requested by her supporter, claiming that signing such contract would get higher talent fee compared to non-exclusive or guaranteed seasonal contract.” So therefore her supposed joint TV appearance on TV5 was momentarily shelved for a long time as well as her future TV guessings on other TV networks due to that offer.

With or without Sarah on ASAP, loyal televiewers of ABS-CBN on every households would continue to watch their favorite ABS-CBN artists performing on aforementioned Sunday noontime show. Aside from her upcoming televised nightly concert show of 2012, she would also become a resident judge of The X Factor Philippines.

While various TV networks in the Philippines such as ABS-CBN, ABC-5 (TV5), and GMA-7 are awaiting for releasing a revised IRR for operating ISDB-T DTTV, they are heating up for producing a featured Philippine TV soap operas for 2012 in order to surprise their loyal televiewers in every Philippine households. Sadly, in spite of the fact that low-budgeted households may not able to buy a large widescreen flat panel TV, they only offer only analog 525-line NTSC (480i in equivalent digital video format) TV broadcast that can be fit for analog TV set, rather than an HD format (720p or 1080i/p) due to the absence of commercialization of ISDB-T DTTV broadcast.

Year 2011 has ended, and now we are now entering the year 2012 when it was claimed to be a near doomsday year event that we ever feared but it was rejected by various scientific expert as a mark of “psychoscience” made by ancient and religious beliefs. Aside from this, I will only consider to discuss on this blog about the most popular and worst featured daytime and nightly daily soap operas in the Philippines currently released in 2011. While various Philippine TV networks currently airing a conventional 525-line (480i in equivalent digital video signal) analog TV broadcast are waiting for the public release of pending final draft of revised Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) for operating Japan-based Integrated Services for Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV) (adopted in mid-2010) made by National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), they often worked hard to produce their own seasonal title TV soaps in order to wow every TV audiences even only SD video format ideal for analog TV set for emerging households, rather than HD widescreen video format for widescreen flat panel TV. But not all TV soaps released in 2011 may guarantee high quality storytelling, theme, and teleplaying having a slight ‘corny’ while focusing only ‘popularity level’.

Here I listed a countdown of the best and the worst teleplay concept quality among the featured seasonal title Philippine TV soap operas of 2011, but not based on TV Household and/or Audience Count around the Philippines from legitimate TV surveying agencies. Not only one but also tied in two, three, or few shows per counting list. Aside from ABS-CBN and GMA-7, TV5 was also joined a line of their drama shows every night after the nightly variety game-show of Willie Revillame.

Nightly TV Soaps

10 — Glamarosa/P.S. I Love You (TV5)

The respective mentioned TV drama show topbilled by Lorna Tolentino (playing the role of medical beauty cosmetics) and Alex Gonzada (playing the former role of Sharon Cuneta in classic 80s matinee Pinoy movie) shows that the two often energized their acting skills a little bit steady in spite that the storytelling of two mentioned TV drama show has a little simplicity of drama scenes.

9 — Iglot (GMA-7)

As a precursor between the previous Mulawin franchise TV fantasy series of GMA-7 and the classic visual-effect-based Philippine movie Anak Ng Bulkan, the show topbills the scene of a monstrous creature of a little chick born from a rocky egg shell held by a little orphaned girl, on which the egg came from a volcano eruption. The show was often inserted a drama scene with mild real-life violence.

8 — Futbolilits/Daldalita/Magic Palayok (GMA-7)

Futbolilits, I thoughtly speculated, was supposed to be a reality sports show of real-life inspiring Filipino boy soccer athlete team in a journey through worldwide junior soccer competition to be produced by GMA News & Public Affairs. However, GMA-7 was momentarily shifted as a fictional, storytelling sports drama soaps on the role of little kids as soccer player, as produced by GMA TV Entertainment Group.

On the other hand, the two featured 6′o clock fantasy show may give a full delight to younger audiences, such as the role of a little girl (played by Jilian Ward) from being talkative and stupid resulting to a “magic-wand” punishment and the role of a magical cooking pot, respectively.

7 — Time Of My Life (GMA-7)

The show has a resemblance of the dance drama show Good Vibes (in which its theme is about family siblings and friendship) on ABS-CBN previously aired every Sunday afternoon after ASAP, but has changed in concept fitted for primetime program, claimed for having a surprisingly energetic dance moves scenes portrayed by various dance talents of GMA-7 appeared in Party Pilipinas, including Starstruck cast Mark Herras, Rocco Nacino, and Kris Bernal. The theme is only about the issue of any form of “mild” scandals encountered on various dance talent cast of the show resulting a momentary break-up. The drama acting skills on most young roles were often flawed a little bit, while the dance scenes was fine in dance steps but its impact is a little bit dull.

6 — Sa Ngalan Ng Ina (TV5)

The comeback appearance of Nora Aunor through this TV drama offering of TV5 may have only a little bit of “wows” of her drama acting skills after a few years of resting. The drama storytelling, as it often portrayed to her as a life of a lonely mother, was lightly simplistic, while the drama teleplay gaining with a few mild violence such as personal conflict and misunderstandings, may be slightly distorted.

5 — The Sisters (TV5); Maria La Del Barrio/Ikaw Ay Pag-Ibig (ABS-CBN)

Former GMA-7 artists Nadine Salmonte on the block of TV5 plays a role of a twin sister in separate places, adapted from comic novelist Rod Santiago. The storytelling and teleplaying was only oversimplicity with a few powerful theme.

Meantime, Maria La Del Barrio (played by Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee adapted from original Mexican drama played by actress Thalia) has often a slightly lowered powerful teleplay having a good storyline as well as romantic scene. Finally—as a precursor of past Christmas drama such as Sana Ngayong Pasko and Jilian: Namamasko Po on GMA-7—the Christmas fantasy drama Ikaw Ay Pag-Ibig (played by Xyriel Manabat, Zaijan Jaranilla, Mutya Orquillo, and Louise Abuel) has a Christian-based fantasy scene depicting the search of the lost replica of baby Jesus) has often not only being surreal in visual effects but also being surreal real-life teleplay.

4 — My Binondo Girl/Green Rose/Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin (ABS-CBN); I Heart You Pare (GMA-7)

This fanfare-based drama show of ABS-CBN played by respective artists Kim Chiu (the role of a young woman finding a way to reunite with his distant father in spite of his fortune-seeking needs in Chinese culture, as well as she often transformed as a male imposture), Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales (playing the role of a young woman who missed a young man blaming to be a murderer), and Coco Martin (playing a role of twin brothers in separate role between a rebel forces and a legitimate army from the government) were often giggled by most fans watching them on TV such as a few young romantic scene, even though the respective theme of the show was good while the drama teleplay creation (except My Binondo girl) was slightly dull and unnatural.

Meanwhile, the humorous scene of I Heart You Pare played by Regine Velasquez (but when she became pregnant, it was momentarily shifted to Iza Calzado) as an astranged singer pretending to be a gay while in her genuine gender was often appraised with good teleplay and several comical stint.

3 — Amaya/Machete/Dwarfina (GMA-7)

The epic action show was inspired from actual historical event in the Philppines about the fall of a princess of Pangasinan, played by Marian Rivera. The dialogue was a purely Tagalog words in order to make it very natural and effective by historical means. It was often featured a past first few week episodes of a controversial scene of skimpy underwear costume for an actress while covering with her long hair without seeing her breast, which was disappointed by most historian in western Visayas.

In spite of the fact that the TV adaptation of classic adult-fantasy movie Machete (portrayed by Aljur Abrenica as a wooden statue turning a human figure) would contain sexual scenes as being feared by most adult televiewers giving forbidden to their younger audiences, the show had claimed to minimize such case in order to yield for them as to give a full delight.

Finally, the dramatic teleplay of Dwarfina (played by Heart Evangelista as a fairy, with Dennis Trillo as a leading male role as a normally human being) seemed good, but not at best. And even though the fantasy scene with a bit of special effects was very good.

2 — Munting Heredera (GMA-7)

The show was topbilled by veteran actress Gloria Romero (playing the role of an old woman as a former heiress in spite of the decline of her financial gain) and director Mario De Los Reyes. It was considered one of the known lucid TV show that has been praised by most televiewers of GMA-7 in remaining 15% to 20% Mega Manila households (not just considering the number of people of intentional viewing of TV sets attuned to Channel 7 in city or provincial buses) where they were dissatisfied to watch various (sometimes fanfare-based) drama shows of ABS-CBN and even TV5. And as for most loyal GMA-7 fantasy show junkies, young or old, they often thought that it was considered a fantasy show and family-oriented (with the inclusion of the scene of trio female child artists playing the role of alleged young heiress) because of their misconception and their curiosity of the title, but in the end they would often disappointed to watch it because of the lack of its fantasy scenes but rather a adult-reality-based mild violence that would be inappropriate for young audiences. Whether or not meant to be a good quality theme, storytelling, and teleplay of the artists being performed, only the management of Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) would decide to judge betting as “Best Primetime Drama” in the next season of PMPC Star Awards For Television Awards this 2012.

1 — 100 Days To Heaven/Budoy/Nasaan Ka Elisa (ABS-CBN)

The acting skill of child actress Xyriel Manabat portraying an alter-ego of turning a little girl from being an adult of Madam Ana Manalastas of her assassinated passing through-and-from heaven (co-portrayed by Coney Reyes) was excellent of memorizing an entire dialogue as a typical adult speech and manner, with her infamous line “Kuha mo?” (“Get it?”). Aside from this, the storytelling, theme, and teleplay was simple, natural, and effective. Although it is Christian-based, it was often considered a real fantasy show. I thought it would bet as Best Horror Or Fantasy TV Program (or rather “Best Primetime Drama” in spite of being a fantasy scene?) on the next season of PMPC Star Awards For Television this 2012.

When ABS-CBN was momentarily shelved the pending story of future show entitled “Utoy” (in which it was supposed to play a role of Makisig Morales and Dolphy as a talent of a clown), the network decided to produce a different soap entitled Budoy portraying the life of a lone autism, played by Gerald Anderson. His comical role as mentioned with a little-boy-like-speech and even child-like acting movement may be regard as very natural and effective. And the theme, teleplay, and storytelling were very good.

Finally, the adaptation of hit Spanish American Telenovela to the Philippines (played by Melissa Ricks as Elisa, a young woman who was trapped by a stanger) was appraised by most entertainment press. The teleplay was very good.

Daytime TV Soaps

6 — Alakdana/Blusang Itim/Kokak (GMA-7)

In the tradition of hit fantasy soaps with 3D visual effects every night on GMA-7 started in 2003, the network had decided to produce a daytime fantasy show series claiming to be a hit for most televiewers right after watching Eat Bulaga! First was Alakdana, a story of a girl who have a tail of scorpion. The second and the third are the featured movie adaptation for TV, such as Blusang Itim, a story about a magical black veil that enables an ugly physical appearance of a young woman turning into a real beauty; and Kokak, a story about a young woman turning into a frog once a man kiss her.

As for Alakdana, the show was supposed to be a one-night-weekly mini horror series about the life of a human scorpion woman seeking a revenge for humanity, but it was later substituted as a melodrama. Kokak, on the other hand, was already featured in the fifth season (2010 series to present) of Wansapanataym on ABS-CBN starred by Cristine Reyes, but the version of GMA-7 in full all-5 day-weekly show was starred by Starstruck finalist Sarah Lahbati.

5 — Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin/Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Langit (GMA-7)

GMA-7 is currently producing a real-time creation of the cast and the place of aforementioned two shows in 2011, in an attempt to improve effective drama scene just as their past drama shows in the 80s, 90s, and early mid-2000s. There were often a slight rowdy theme, storytelling, and teleplay on these two shows. The acting role for most young stars (except Patrick Garcia appearing in Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Langit) were often clumsy a little bit such as the attempt to play a mild violence such as fistfight and even cruel dialogue and even a romantic role, mainly because of their limited energetic skill. (For a full detail about the story and character of these two shows, check out Google.com and type <title of the show><space>site:pep.ph under a search keyword text box.)

4 — Sisid (GMA-7)

Inspired from youth-oriented Australian epic TV series Ocean Girl, GMA-7 has created a version in adult-oriented drama. Sisid features a young woman who lived in the barrio-town seashore (played by Jackie Rice as her lead role). When she fled as conflict arises, she moved to metropolitan Manila to find a way the real root of her identity and origin of her biological life. For Jackie, her acting role had improved a bit, among other cast.

3 — Sinner Or Saint/My Lover, My Wife (GMA-7)

Sinner Or Saint is one of the darkest soap opera about obsession for romance, played by Dennis Trillo, Bianca King, and Alessandra de Rossi. While some of the scenes may not be appropriate for younger audiences because of erotic scenes, sensitive adult dialogue, and murder scenes, the theme, storytelling, and teleplay creation were often a mixture of “good to very good”, but not at best.

My Lover, My Wife (played by Maxene Magalona as main role), on the other hand, was also about obsession of romantic partners in the shadow of revenge. The result of the teleplay of erotic scene was often good.

2 — Pahiram Ng Isang Ina (GMA-7)

When I was a little boy I remembered about a cartoon drama movie Nobody’s Boy when I watched a TV, only a few portion of the scenes. And now, closely similar to Carlo J Caparas’ comics novel TV adaptation Pieta (starred by Ryan Agoncillo) already aired on ABS-CBN, GMA-7 had their own version of story creation: the role of a mild rebellious boy seeking a revenge from a syndicate trying to grab her mother.

1 — Reputasyon/Angelito (ABS-CBN)

While this featured afternoon soap was not enough a hit among the number of TV households overshadowed by daytime afternoon soap of GMA-7, Reputasyon only became a hit with a good positive reviews of storytelling creation and teleplay, according to most local entertainment critics and even social media Internet. Cristine Reyes plays the role of Agnes, a young woman as a teacher who was blamed for an affair with a male provincial governor. When this man as mentioned was suffered a heart attack, he pushed to Agnes—who was supposed for begging for a treatment of her father as a farmer—into bed, but she didn’t knew that a paparazzi took a photo shot. Such scandalous plot was done by Catherine (played by Aiko Melendez), a former restaurant-bar dancer and governor’s wife. Agnes must find a way on where is the root of such scandal connecting to Catherine, in spite of injustice.

On the other hand, Angelito plays the role of a teenage boy (starred by JM de Guzman) who took his girlfriend to become pregnant under their age of below 18. His girlfriend’s father and brother tried to kill him from being irresponsible… When his girlfriend bore a baby boy, they tried to escape over his girlfriend’s parents, but while in a bus station his girlfriend—threathened on a warning gunshot of her father—left him carrying a baby boy. As Angelito missed his girlfriend for a momentary separation, he as a teenage father continued to nurture a baby boy in an urban shanties of metropolitan Manila.

Worst Daytime and Nightly TV Soaps

4 — Mutya (ABS-CBN)

Different from Dyesibel, the version of Pablo S Gomez comics TV adaptation foretold about a little girl as a mermaid (played by Mutya Orquilla). One of the slight corny scenes was the intention to sing her a song entitled “Sana’y Pag-Ibig Na Lang” that’s so annoying. The second corny scenes was the underwater battle scenes that seemed so surreal and difficult to maneuver to play—often suitable for young audiences—different from real bloody killings on many action movies.

3 — Bangis (TV5)

While this fantasy TV series generate only near-surreal 3D animated texture and motion for a giant crocodile, the aforementioned may play a role as a friendly creature for the family of a boy who took for a care. The acting skill creation in melodrama style on some scenes was so clumsy.

2 — Babaeng Hampaslupa (TV5)

The show was likely known as a precursor of Philippine movie series franchise Mano Po produced by Regal Films. Sometimes there were a mixture of a setting of a theme and storytelling such as the seperation between the rich and the poor places, the finding of a lost beloved baby girl ’till her grown up as a young lady (portrayed by Alex Gonzada) from the beginning, and the conflict because of their different culture. The acting skill creation as well as a dialogue such as grieving and crying for the cast was so clumsy and unnatural.

1 — Nita Negrita (GMA-7)

This controversial daytime drama soap about the story of a dark-skinned girl (portrayed by Barbie Forteza) who was mysteriously born naturally in the face of real-life white races became a concern for some people—not only in households but also around passengers riding a bus with TV—who complained to watch it as a racist.

Working Title: Love Struck 2012
To Be Produced: Viva Records
Pending Release: Mid-2012 or late 2012

We are familiar about the successful mainstream career of Sarah Geronimo, Mark Bautista, and Rachelle Ann Go—as part of Viva artist singers in the new generation started in 2003—who were maintained their popularity and exposure as being amazed to the ordinary Filipino masses. We, on the other hand, are not familiar about other Viva artist singers—except for mentioning rock band group like Soapdish and Maldita—from 2004 to the present that sometimes their promotion and exposure were limited resulting to premature or short-lived career status, such as for example Nikki Bacolod, Devotion, 17:28, a boyband of 2006 that I forgot, and many others; otherwise appearing on Sunday noontime musical variety show Party Pilipinas on GMA-7 in order to survive, such as XLR8, Pop Girls, and Miguel Escueta. As for Viva Entertainment based in the Philippines, its affiliate, Viva Records, would do their best to promote so much only if they would give high quality musical industry in spite of online music piracy.

Back then, Viva Records introduced a special compilation album released between 2004 to 2008 entitled “Love Struck” that features the past Original Pinoy Music (OPM) hit love songs performed by various Viva artist singers, including Sarah, Mark, and Rachelle. The music album had produced three sequels, such as “Love Struck”, “Love Struck 2″, and “Love Struck: Duets”.

But today, I ever wish to Viva Records that if they would read this blog, they should produce another compilation album about various original, respective hit heartbreak and heartwarmth love songs from 2010 to 2011 performed by various current and new-come Viva artist singers, even a respective Viva actress and a TV show host. If promised, the possible title of future compilation music album, in which it would plan to release by mid or late 2012, should be, say, “Love Struck 2012″.

Here are the list of possible archived OPM hit love songs based on my Internet research over Viva website using Google search to be used for making a future greatest hits album of 2010 to 2011 as I suggested to Viva:

Sino Nga Ba Siya — Sarah Geronimo

Kahit May Mahal Ka Ng Iba — Mark Bautista

Masasabi Mo Ba — Rachelle Ann Go

‘Di Na Ako Iibig Pang Muli — April Boy Regino & JC Regino

Pagkakataon — Shamrock & Rachelle Ann Go

Wala Na Tayo — BBS with Kean Cipriano & Eunice

Tinamaan Ako — Anne Curtis

Tanging Pangarap — Arianne Aldecoa

Nakatanim — Jay Perillo

Kiss (Never Let Go) — Thyro Alfaro & Yumi Lacsamana

Por Que — Maldita

I Love You — Willie Revillame

This Moment — Lara Cuevas

Kung Siya Ang Mahal — Sarah Geronimo

Take Our Poll

Future Sarah Geronimo Album For 2012 or 2013?

After One Heart released in 2011, it is uncertain whether singer-actress Sarah Geronimo would stay to Viva as her 10-year contract would expire by 2013. Even the planned production of future debut music album suited for her before 2013 is currently pending. But before it would be too late, I also wish to Viva that they should grant my sample dream song composition for Sarah that I created in 2008 as posted on my blog (http://alberticornelio-philippines.blogspot.com) as well as fewer times of posting over forums fan page. I only wish to work for her as being an amateur—rather than professional—creation only with a consent of Viva management in spite of my unemployment for labor. Even if my composed song for her would take a little revision of every lyrics, only if they would hire for me!

We already heard on many Philippine media entertainment news on this year 2011 and that past few years away about the rumors of the transfer of many artists on television. One of the past issue was the transfer from the TV artists of ABS-CBN through other TV networks such as Jolina Magdangal, Patrick Garcia, Dennis Trillio, Martin Agustin, Claudine Barreto, and Heart Evangelista, who were now part of GMA-7 artists family. And now recently Sharon Cuneta and Derek Ramsay on their rumored transfer to TV5 right after Dolphy, Willie Revillame, Tintin Bersola-Babao, and Aga Muhlach. But how about Sarah Geronimo, a singer-actress as part of Viva artists, who should always being a TV appearance crossover on ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA-7 for maintaining her exposure aside from singing alone?

Recently, Sarah signed another one-year contract of 2012 for an extension of her TV appearance as host and performer on ASAP as well as her upcoming movie from ABS-CBN Star Cinema. The request for having another exclusive contract of ABS-CBN to Sarah Geronimo came from the decision of her supporter, but not just her own decision. They believed that being signing an exclusive contract would give a higher talent fee compared to non-exclusive having only a limited talent fee. This would not happened again for giving a limited talent fee for her on her past movie with John Lloyd Cruz in 2008 as being criticized by her supporter.

The only problem now is that her exposure on mainstream TV aside from airing her hit love song on FM radio as well as her current TV and radio ads would began to erode, mainly due to the fact that her musical variety show ASAP on ABS-CBN as well as her past musical drama IDOL was not well on both TV Household and TV audience count in Mega Manila (not mentioning nationwide and worldwide). We only know that terrestrial analog TV channel 2 (54-60 MHz) in Metro Manila is not detectable to a rampant Japan Surplus TV set due to different radio spectrum (Japanese TV channels 1 to 3 at 90-108 MHz) and can be detectable only on both a genuine standard US TV channel system on commercial analog TV set and even high quality outdoor antenna. And while digital terrestrial television (DTTV) in the Philippines using Japan-based ISDB-T has not yet commercialized in full run, it would be too hard for her to succeed, as many ordinary Filipino people (and even though loyal GMA-7 artists—even Marian Rivera fans—may not welcome for her) did not aware of her.

If she would rather sign a non-exclusive contract, then she would have a chance to promote as a guest appearance through other TV shows of other TV networks such as Eat Bulaga! and Master Showman on GMA-7 (except Party Pilipinas) and Wil Time Big Time on TV5, but this does not mean she would left ABS-CBN as she is currently perform on ASAP and even upcoming drama shows or even a drama episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. The supposed move from Viva Television—as announced by Willie Revillame on his nightly variety game show in 2010—for Sarah as a host of upcoming singing talent show entitled A Star Is Born on TV5 was scrapped momentarily, mainly because she would have as a resident judge of upcoming worldwide franchise talent program The X Factor Philippines, as well as—though unclear—her own solo musical or talk show on ABS-CBN.

And how about her current endorsements? About millions of pesos being gained for her. Even Sarah became an endorser of the Philippine-based mobile phone maker MyPhone in 2010. Not only on aforementioned GSM-based handset, but according to my own thought via anonymous sources, also like to introduce a brand of mobile or set-top-box DTTV set by 2012 in order to compete other DTTV products from other Philippine-based mobile GSM handset products such as Cherry and Torque. The full basis through reliable sources would be given very soon.

About nearly one and one-fourth year to go before her exclusive contract from Viva Entertainment would expire. It’s not certain whether or not Sarah would left Viva Talent Center and entering through the part of ABS-CBN Star Magic Talent Center, but it’s up to the decision of her supporter even if it would partly consider her exposure to the eyes of the public, not only the loyal televiewer of ABS-CBN but also the loyal televiewer of GMA-7 as well as those people who are not yet experienced to watch a TV set.

Luckily, Viva Entertainment Philippines has boosted its entertainment industry in 2011 after succeeding its respective highest gross movies like No Other Woman (played by Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsay, and Cristine Reyes) and Praybeyt Benjamin (inspired from classic Philippine movie Kumander Gringa starring Roderick Paulate and played by Vice Ganda for the “remake”) with P 240 million and P 300 million. Now, how would the company to hold a big buck of money for their future entertainment project and even its facility, as well as paying a talent fee for their artists and even a salary for their employees?

According to my own suggested thoughts or ideas, with a total of over P 600 million as of 2011, Viva Entertainment should divide into four out of five: (1) 20% or P 120 million for buying digital HD video equipment for future TV shows, home video systems, and cable TV broadcasting; (2) 20% P 120 million for upgrading film movie equipment, such as advanced film movie cameras, digitally-processed film editing and recording, and digital sound film editing; (3) 5% or P 30 million for upgrading audio recording equipment, if necessary; and (4) 15% or P 90 million for talent fee for artists and salary for the employees, as well as taxes and other utility-based facilities.

The fifth one is that even variety game show host Willie Revillame was publicly announced that his nightly variety game show on TV5 would introduce a new studio having a seating capacity of 1,000 people located on the new TV5 station building in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines starting January 2012. The funds for the construction of a new stage inside a new TV5 studio complex was not only came from the “money vault” of both Willie’s production company Wil Productions Inc. paid from the sponsors and Media Quest Corporation headed by Smart Communications founder Manny Pangilinan but, according from my own thought via anonymous sources, also came from the aforementioned movie gross of Viva Entertainment as a co-production for them with 35% share or estimately P 210 million and 10% share or P 60 million for a cash prize of the show. (Viva was also produced Willie’s first music album last 2010.) Is my thought true as mentioned or just a speculation? I’ll find out soon only with a reliable sources.

Expect that Viva Entertainment would try their best to promote many Filipino audiences in order to support their future high quality movie shows free of image and sound degradation, unlike their past Philippine movies in the ’80s and ’90s. And else, they would wish an even more movie grosses in the future in order to expand its entertainment facilities.

The Lopez-owned TV network in the Philippines has felt their fear that their local analog terrestrial TV channel in Metro Manila would lost its exposure by the eyes of Mega Manila people, following that their current noontime TV show, afternoon shows, interactive talent show Showtime, and morning shows only registers low TV audience count and low household TV sets in 2011.

This in turn when a controversial TV surveying system made by AGB Nielsen (as heavily influenced by GMA Network and reported by PEP.ph) such as People Meter introduced in 2010 and TV Household Meter currently from 2005 has claimed that GMA-7 gains fewer audience count on both household and outdoor and regains TV household count as well as rampant ‘Surplus TV’ and some appliance stores, even establishments and moving vehicles with TV. Accordingly, GMA-7 was restrengthened TV show offering such as popular Japanese cartoons, block time movies, and afternoon TV drama shows, even in longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga!, due to the perception of many people to watch with high praise after they were dissatisfied to watch both ABS-CBN and TV5 shows.

And as in the case of current ABS-CBN noontime show Happy Yipee Yehey!, the loyalist of Eat Bulaga on GMA-7 and even the loyalist—mostly poor people—of Willie Revillame’s nightly variety game show on TV5 may not welcome to watch it due to several reasons, saying it was so boring and corny because of little lucid jokes and even the absence of Willie Revillame due to his self-firer in 2010.

However, ABS-CBN has its question: is the TV surveying result accurate due to the people’s perception to repromote to watch GMA-7, or is it being ‘vandalized’ in spite of widespread Surplus TV, TV in establishments, and motorized TV?

ABS-CBN has been consulted to Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) media research in 2006 (later renamed as Kantar TNS in 2010) whose purpose is to correct the flaws from TV surveying data made from AGB Nielsen. Instead of using a conventional TV metering panel being controlled by household only as being devised by AGB Nielsen on their server system, TNS uses only an advanced digital mapping TV surveying system being controlled by legitimate PC programmer as media agent located at its satellite offices not only in Mega Manila but also nationwide. (CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS) For fairness of accuracy, the TNS TV surveying system first focuses only on terrestrial analog TV transmission rather than combining with cable and satellite TV transmission, since the latter has different media surveying agent.

While ABS-CBN has declined to release a version of a full accurate terrestrial analog TV surveying system in Mega Manila made by Kantar TNS by this date fearing that it would be the same—though different—as that of a version of AGB Nielsen, here are my own scenario to show that GMA-7 currently gains TV audience count in Mega Manila:

About thousands of TV sets on most buses and other motorized vehicles have been tuning on Channel 7 around Metro Manila. Since a bus carries about 50 passengers, thousands of units with TV set would gain about more than 100,000 passengers that intentionally watch Channel 7 per hour, with a total of more than 1 million passengers as a substitute of TV audience in 12 hours.

About approximately 1,000 TV sets in business establishments and various shanty areas around Metro and Mega Manila have been tuning on Channel 7, loading about tens of thousands of available people watching TV in 8 hours.

In spite of rampant Japan Surplus TV and some appliance stores that would interfere legitimate terrestrial analog TV household count, in reality only about 8% to 10% of Mega Manila households (under classes B, C, D, and E) with terrestrial analog TV sets on both morning and afternoon slot watching Channel 7, as well as watching Eat Bulaga! and various evening GMA-7 TV shows with about 15% to 20% of households down from 30% from 2005 to 2010, tying up on ABS-CBN and TV5 shows as of that date. (Happy Yipee Yehey! on ABS-CBN only registers about 2% of TV viewing population and 6% to 8% on TV households, claimed by AGB Nielsen) The actual TV audience count in households for Channel 7 by 2011 was unknown, but it would gain only less than 1 to 1.5 million views in 18 hours, down from 3 to 4 million views from 2005 to 2010. This prediction of mine is currently coincidental and not based on actual result.

If the TV survey from AGB would be true, that would be a ‘big slap’ from millions of loyal televiewer of GMA-7 and their favorite artist of the network in Mega Manila against ABS-CBN. Even though they would reject to hear a word ‘sorry’ from ABS-CBN management “as a mark of their shame”, they said. Or else they would hate to watch ABS-CBN shows as a plan to close it again, just as the closure during Martial Law years. And hell yes, they would stick to watch GMA-7 on their analog TV set forever so that their favorite analog TV channel from GMA Network as being incorporal (meaning being dependent of direct promotions to many people) would become rich thanks for watching a TV ads in order to buy products as a root to pay from the sponsor of the advertisers. Loyal televiewers of ABS-CBN, though respected, did not felt the rants of them.

ABS-CBN has no plan to have defamatory speech against GMA-7 in spite of their own questionable TV surveying result from AGB, but rather respected to them because of contribution of promotional and financial needs. Even though the remains from being corporal (meaning being helped from private sector and the sponsor of media advertisers by limited financial means) TV network as a member of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), they would give their best to restore their TV entertainment values and that would be careful so much for moral reason. It would take a long few years to heal their wounds on how to repromote many people to watch their analog local TV channel before they would apologize from past mistakes. And while digital terrestrial television (DTTV) broadcast in the Philippines using ISDB-T started in trial period in 2008 has not yet to become mainstream, the ABS-CBN terrestrial analog TV broadcast would lost its exposure by the eyes of the loyal televiewer of GMA-7 and some other people in Mega Manila not only on the issue of analog TV reception problem, but also been criticized from being irresponsible saying that the management of the network would “likely become evil” just as for example in Ultra stampede tragedy in 2005.

There was a great shock about the phenomenal simultaneous death of the family relatives of Filipino entertainment artists such as singer Charice Pempengco (the murderous death of his father) and veteran actor Ramon Revilla Sr. (the murderous death of his grandson Ram Revilla) happened at the end of 3rd quarter of the year of 2011. The aforementioned two artist’s (slight) bitter memories have been flourished such tragic event in the history of the Philippines when such family problem was not so cautious to value their lives, without knowing about the dangers of individual conflicts and envies. As for the two, sometimes they don’t care because of their fear that their family in separate event would be hurt so much by hellish interest. We often wondered why such happened, as the “phantom of Death’s time frame” often held these two separate events felt by these two artists. Even the Philippines and the world often seemed aback about their timely bitter lives as their dissidence was faded momentarily.

For Charice Pempengco and Ramon Revilla Sr., this blog and the loyal artists’ fans has been sympathized for the loss of their family loved ones. May God bless them and they will rest in peace.

As the Philippines officially adopts ISDB-T as the sole digital terrestrial television (DTTV) standard, there is an important consideration about installing a DTTV transmitting antenna over the current TV tower structures owned by most TV networks in the Philippines as discussed on this blog not affiliated from the official order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), where it was currently assigned a new DTTV channel suitable for most TV networks right after the conclusion of creating Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) in June of 2011 (but later revised momentarily by August of 2011 after reviewing a standard together with DVB-T2) to be released only in a given time of the launch of DTTV broadcasting. Since most digital terrestrial signals like ISDB-T consume less electricity than the analog radio and TV transmission, it may be susceptible to signal obstruction like high rise building and mountainous areas. Therefore the purpose of this is to have an even higher elevation in order to lead over that obstruction and widen signal coverage even at low-lying areas. Another consideration is the possible reduction of TV tower congestion uniting all DTTV channels, as mentioned at the end of paragraph in this blog.

The following table shows a possible scenario when all congested Metro Manila TV tower running on ISDB-T DTTV transmission become problematic due to obstruction of high rise buildings and mountainous areas. (See also figure above.) Note that GMA Tower of Power, RJTV Tower, and ZOE TV Tower are the only structure in order to have wider DTTV coverage over other TV tower.

In that case, most households watching either CRT or LCD TV connected with ISDB-T set-top-box (STB) would encounter DTTV signal interruptions when most DTTV channels owned by various TV networks running on their own TV tower as listed above would persist. In order to remedy this problem, though mandatory, only an outdoor DTTV antenna having a 4-bay conical array and a rectangular reflector could be capable to trace DTTV signal overlapping such obstruction (see below).

As high rise building—known as skyscraper—in Metro Manila became widespread as a result of blocking all congested TV tower, one of the simple but expensive solution is to build a high rise DTTV tower similar to Tokyo Sky Tree Tower in 2011. The possible design of the proposed construction of the tower in metropolitan Philippines different from aforementioned Japanese tower structure is currently pending.

Various privately-owned TV networks in the Philippines, as well as the Philippine government, various telecommunication companies, and private real estate companies would unite together in order to construct a DTTV tower together with a Japanese partnership only with consent, spending billions of pesos to buy materials as well as equipment and labor. The construction of future DTTV tower in Metro and Mega Manila for the next two to three years, according to my own thought through possible reliable source in the coming years, would be in a portion of mountainous areas in nearby town of either in Antipolo or in Jala-Jala, Rizal, or on the ground of Metro Manila area originally planned for the construction of PAGCOR Tower.
