Albert Cornelio’s Three Feature Wattpad Stories of 2015

March 30, 2015

Here I create my own three feature stories of 2015 on Wattpad.

Becoming a professional novel author to produce high quality storytelling on most commercially available physical book print copies may not be easy to qualify to work on various mainstream book publishers. For starters, young or old, they may create their own experimental, original story craft in any form of genre—such as drama, fantasy, action, etc.—and share it through many Internet users to read who have the power to judge their own favorite story content by means of “vote”, using a social-based online freeware novel site Wattpad.

Over 14 million feature social-based novel titles on Wattpad have been produced by various Internet users as online amateur novelists all over the world for the past 10 years. In the Philippines, over 10 thousand feature social-based novel titles on Wattpad have been produced by various online Filipino amateur novelists—mostly some female high school or college students—and featured on various local pocketbook such as Summit Media’s Pop Fiction, Viva-PSICOM, Precious Pages Lib Creatives Pastrybug, and many others. The select feature Filipino-based Wattpad story was also adapted on mainstream movies and television.

One of the most popular Wattpad stories all over the world were Anna Todd’s After, Natali Kim’s Infinity.Dream, Age of Adaline, sci-fi adult cartoon Neptune Road, I Love You, Bestfriend, and many others. In the Philippines, there were Diary ng Panget, She’s Dating The Gangster, Talk Back And You’re Dead, Marcelo Santos III’s Para Sa Hopeless Romantic, Noringai’s Bagito, Ilurvbook’s The Bet, forgottenGlimmer’s Reyna ng Kamalasan, erinedipity’s The Break-up Planner, etc.

This time in 2015, as being a blogger and remain unemployed, I will try my best to create my own original story on Wattpad, although some portion lacked expansion of story plot due to time-consuming and constraints of exploring my ideas. Presenting my own three novels such as Kahiyas Singers, Ang Tatay Kong Nakikisalamuha ng Boyfriend Ko, and Nikki Meets Sophie.

My Current Feature Wattpad Novel 2015

As I mentioned earlier, it’s up for me to try to expand or revise the quality of my feature Wattpad story in due time, only if you ever suggest to comment for me. In the meantime, here are the following overviews, with links to click to visit:

  • Kahiyas Singers. Three girls Maicy, Bessy, and Aira bonded together to sing as Kahiyas Singers group when there were kids and teen years. When they broke up as they turned young adult, there were three separate events where Maicy became a public elementary music school teacher, Bessy became a resto-bar rock band singer, and Aira became a successful solo pop singer. In spite that Aira had several times of intrigues as being reported by various local Philippine entertainment press on a fact that she was hidden from being a intentional prostitute, she had to continue her struggles in showbiz career without revealing her hidden truth to the public. Maicy and Bessy, on the other hand, had begun to reunite their friendship as they attempt to reunite with Aira, whether a success or a failure.
  • Ang Tatay Kong Nakikisalamuha ng Boyfriend Ko. A responsible father who worked as a psychologist doctor in a private high-class hospital had gave respect to his loving 16-ear old daughter after his wife died from pregnancy conceiving problem. One day, in a famous historical park in Manila, he, together with her daughter, saw his daughter’s boyfriend. As he often gave a respect and joy with the two, he was likely intend to mingle his daughter’s boyfriend.
  • Nikki Meets Sophie. As part of a post-season of hit daytime family drama Be Careful With My Heart on ABS-CBN, I often create my own original Wattpad fan fiction story together with current airing of Janella Salvador’s Oh My G. In the year 2015, 16-year old Nikki-Grace Lim who will graduate from high school often watch the TV show Oh My G, the story of a 16-year old Sophie Cepeda who missed the passing of her parents who were murdered by a gunshot of many criminals. Both Nikki and Sophie had similar physical faces. When Nikki was slept, she dreamed and entered Sophie’s world.

My Upcoming Feature Wattpad Novel

If I could ever complete the story as shown above, here are my upcoming Wattpad story by next year:

  • Ang Bunsong Kapatid na Babae Kong Nakikisalamuha ng Boyfriend Ko. A second installment of Nakikisalamuha series, it is a story of two teen girl siblings when a 13-year old girl often met and mingle a 16-year old older sister’s boyfriend.
  • Ang Nanay Kong Nakikisalamuha ng Girlfriend Ko. A third installment of Nakikisalamuha series, a loving mother often met her son’s girlfriend.
  • Mallows Necklace. Based from public domain original version of MarNella Wattpad fan fiction Infinity Necklace by Katrina Sanchez with a further revision of my own version, Nikki-Grace Lim, who wore a simple, casual “Mallows” nylon string necklace made from a gift of her boyfriend Niccolo before she left for a vacation abroad, was lost during her 18th birthday debut party.

Schedule of Updating New Chapter

Natali Kim’s “Infinity.Dream” on Wattpad: A Likely Typical Musical Children Drama Novel?

December 20, 2014
natali kim eternally wattpad infinity dream

Graphical art cover of Natali Kim’s Wattpad novel Infinity.Dream.

In the past, we were often familiar to aware the physical release of every children’s book with an even modest, family-oriented contents that may be either educational or entertaining. Gone are the days of hit fairytale book Harry Potter adapted thru movies, various Grimm’s fairytale series, fairytales adapted thru Walt Disney Pictures, or even various children’s short stories on literature textbooks. But now, not only on a conventional paper-and-ink-based physical book material but also on electronic-based reading material—known as E-books—found on modern-day E-ink tablet display device or even Apple-based or Android-based tablet PCs to enjoy child-friendly-oriented reading contents.

And what if a worldwide leading fan-based online novel creation Wattpad may open the door for a possible project to produce child-oriented novel contents? Of about millions of feature Wattpad fan-based novel titles created by millions of amateur novelists around the world (thousands of which were in the Philippines), majority of every contents—in spite of its sensibility of every story—were often either a romance, action, suspense, fantasy, or horror, and the characters on the majority of which were only teens and adults. Not all feature Wattpad novels may feature a main character of a child, though. But here I’ll share a feature Wattpad novel having a major portrayal of a female child and even a supporting child characters written and created by Canadian teen novelist Natali Kim (EternallyNatali) who joined on her Wattpad account since summer of 2013 at her age of 13.

Entitled Infinity.Dream, the novel portrays a 9-year old girl named Maira Treslyn who—wishing to become as a gifted professional child pop music singer in the long run—wanted to honor her father as a politician being framed of graft and corruption charges. Despite of many sensitive environment that might clouded and plagued her normal psychological and social interaction, she as a minor was often faced many challenges and obstacles that might endanger her music entertainment career, such as bullying inside school and many places; and intrigues and controversies (even surrounded by paparazzi).

I became loyal for reading her crafted novel as I thought I would likely watching a Japanese animé cartoon on movies or TV, since the story settings were a typical fictionalized “fantasy” world different on our real world, and the appearance of every characters were likely related on various Japanese manga cartoon. Currently, her novel registers an average of 500 to more than 1,000 reads per chapter or about a total of more than 10,000 reads of entire chapters from June to December 2014, and it will continue to grow web reading audience count by means of promotional campaign to support it thru Facebook or Twitter.

Thought to be slightly a child-oriented Wattpad children novel in spite of some little bit of foul language in English such as “f” and “s” and some sensitive mild explicit context that requires parental or adult discretion when reading with a minor (currently “PG-13” on the novel being moderated by Wattpad webmaster staff), she who was unminded to follow the rules was often cautious when entertaining her own story craft of the role of every fictional child characters concerning racial age-related issues. Although if a feature Wattpad novel has a teen character so therefore its genre should be in “teen fiction” category, it was unclear whether Wattpad may suggested to include “child fiction” category for Natali Kim’s novel, even on future child-friendly-oriented novel.

Possible Adaptation?

Natali Kim’s signature Wattpad novel—currently at 18 chapters being crafted from June to December 2014 and will continue to finish it at projected total of 50 to 60 chapters by 2015 or 2016 with a consent of her parents and even her busy schedule such as studying, various school activities, and family bonding—may be a part of candidate adaptation through either a movie or TV, whether animated drawing or camera-shoot-based. If this would be possible in the future only if she could finish it, the primary step to negotiate may be a various Japanese animated TV production companies such as Toei, Fuji TV, TV Tokyo, TMS, TV Mainichi, or anything. Another optional step to adapt may be rather produce it in either animated cartoon or camera-scene-based in the U.S. or Canada, filtering out some foul language and sensitive story plot from her original text of Wattpad novel.

But what if there were a possibility that various local TV media outlets in emerging countries—say, the Philippines—would adapt Natali Kim’s novel with a full consent and respect, just as I—the blogger based in the Philippines—had discover it? For example—even if this might be possible in reality in the near future as I rather suggest only—local TV network ABS-CBN would try to adapt her novel, re-substitute from original surname of every fictional characters and choosing the right scene shooting location in real world while preserving the original story plot of her novel in a typical Filipino-pop-culture-flavored TV show concept. (That is, 40% original story plot and 60% re-substituted character and location settings.)

Related Trending Feature Wattpad Novel

In 2013, Summit Media Publishing Philippines had begun to compile various feature Filipino-based Wattpad novel titles being managed by Pandayan Workshop for various amateur online novelists such as She’s Dating The Gangster, The Bet, Hopeless Romantic, The Filthy Rich Bitch, Seducing Drake Palma, AFGITMOLFM, etc., under a signature pocketbook production Pop Fiction. Viva Entertainment Philippines and PSICOM negotiated each other to produce a physical copy of four-part series Diary ng Panget and two-part series Talk Back And You’re Dead before adapting in movie version. Precious Pages Corporation—the original producer of Precious Hearts Romances pocketbooks for the past few decades—was also competing between Summit and Viva-PSICOM as they also compile key select feature Filipino-based Wattpad novel with the introduction of PastryBug pocketbook. Anvil Publishing introduces Noreen Capili’s (noringai) signature Wattpad novel Buti Pa Ang Roma, May Bagong Papa and Parang Kayo Pero Hindi currently available in physical book copies in leading bookstore in the Philippines.

A few of the recent production in Philippine movie or TV based from various feature Filipino-based Wattpad novels in 2014 were Diary ng Panget and Talk Back And You’re Dead (produced by Viva Entertainment Philippines and PSICOM); She’s Dating The Gangster (produced by ABS-CBN Star Cinema); Noreen Capili’s (noringai) My App Boyfie [as featured on hot-adult contemporary fantasy-drama anthology Wansapanataym] and Bagito (produced by ABS-CBN TV Entertainment Group and co-produced by Cinemedia and Dreamscape, respectively); and various week-long-season-run titles—including OwwSic’s Diary ng Hindi Malandi (slight lang)—under main banner TV drama anthology show Wattpad Presents on TV5 Philippines (produced by Media Quest Philippines, an affiliate of MVP Group that runs PLDT, Smart, and Cignal Satellite DTV).

By 4th quarter of 2014, Paramount Pictures in Hollywood is planning to produce a film adapting Anna Todd’s Wattpad novel After trilogy, and will be shown in the U.S. and key select countries worldwide by 2015 or later.

A Future Development of Open Source Content-Aware (Moving) Image Editing Software?

June 11, 2014
content aware digital video remaster

A sample digital video image dimension conversion from conventional 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio without cropping using a future open source programming of content-aware to recover a missing detail. (Video clip from Facebook page via YouTube of Be Careful With My Heart thru ABS-CBN.com, used with permision.)

For the  past few years we had often enjoy to watch a conventional moving image dimension—whether on film or TV or video—with an aspect ratio of 4:3. But on today’s digital age, when 16:9 digital video image was introduced in DTV broadcasting, Internet streaming, and  digital home video system, someone had requested to remaster digitally from 4:3 image to a true content-aware 16:9 image without cropping but rather recovering a missing detail from being pillar box layout. One of the recent example of fully-licensed commercial software was Adobe Photoshop CS5, which is capable to recover a missing detail of original 4:3 still image while lying under 16:9 image master layout. However, the use of commercial software would be very expensive as well as labor cost to process for a long time to remaster the entire sample old moving image dimension. To solve this problem, my only wish is to develop an open-source software based on Linux OS and GNU technology using an affordable calculation of MPEG-based or JPEG-based image recovery value constant, relative to a conventional mathematical constant such as pi (π) equal to 3.14… Although I’m not a computer programmer, here is my own suggestion to the developer of open-source imaging software such as GIMP as well as SourceForge.net community:

  1. Take a sample of high resolution, wider aspect ratio, digital still image from a standard high performance digital camera. Suppose, for example, a high quality 4K resolution (2160p) with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
  2. While preserving an original sample image capture, copy the image and then:
    a. Crop the original 16:9 image dimension to 4:3 image dimension. To find the width for converting  4:3 image from 16:9 image, the following equation is as follows:
    Width (in pixels) (4:3) = Length (in pixels) × (4 ÷ 3)
    b. Reduce the original high resolution image being cropped from step 2a to become a standard definition (SD) nominal image resolution, such as 480p (720 × 480) or 576p (720 × 576).
  3. Using a system based from MPEG or JPEG format, calculate to find a constant value between SD resolution and high resolution image of the same aspect ratio image dimension given in step 2b, and find a constant value between 4:3 image and 16:9 image given from step 2a. The following respective equation is as follows:
    a. Original low resolution image of the same imaging object  (Rl) ÷ Original high resolution image of the same imaging object (Rh) = True content-aware high resolution image conversion constant (Khrc) [Rl ÷ Rh = Khrc]
    b. Original 4:3 short aspect ratio image of the same imaging object (Ps)÷ Original 16:9 long aspect ratio image of the same imaging object (Pl)= True content-aware wide aspect ratio image dimension conversion constant (Kwarc) [Ps ÷ Pl = Kwarc]
  4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 to make another respective sample constant value of image aspect ratio and image resolution true content-aware conversion calculation.
  5. To test whether the use of respective conversion constant value of image resolution and image aspect ratio based from MPEG or JPEG would work as a true content-aware open source system, take a sample image being scanned in low resolution and limited aspect ratio dimension. Hence:
    a. Revealing a true content-aware high resolution image detail [Rh = Rl × Khrc (vary)]
    b. Revealing a true content-aware wide aspect ratio image dimension [Pl = Ps × Kwarc (vary)]

Whether the use of open-source based system would work as mentioned above or not in order to surpass the current commercial image editing software to function content-aware image remaster system, the most important thing is to have a thorough study to produce a new system and would take a long time to process with the cooperation of a fellow well-trained open-source software programmer. If this would be a reality, then various commercial film or TV producer would never have to worry to pay more to remaster old film or TV video content at an affordable processing cost.

A Future Multicore GPU For 4K or 8K 3D PC Gaming?

May 9, 2014

For the past few years various competing graphics processing unit (GPU) chip brand such as Nvidia GeForce and AMD Radeon (formerly ATI Radeon) developed a conventional single-core architecture, consisting of hundreds of millions of switching transistors capable to generate billions of resolution raster fill rate and trillions of 3D texture trigonometry fill rate per second. Although current high performance GPUs work well only on 720p, 768p, and 1080p high definition (HD) to run 3D animation gaming software content, there were uncertain whether they would support to run future 4K ultra-high definition (2160p) or 8K Super Hi-Vision (4320p) resolution 3D animation gaming software content having with high texture depth that would slow down processing time.

I ever wish for Nvidia and AMD reading on this blog to try develop a multicore—say, eight-core or sixteen core—GPU capable to run future 4K or 8K resolution 3D animation gaming software content. In the following sample illustration below, each single core of the total 8-core or 16-core GPU consists of five-in-one component such as 3D texture depth, 3D color shading, 2D vector, and raster video and still image codecs (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, HEVC, JPEG, JPEG2000, etc.) Above the 8-core or 16-core are the multi-level—say, level 5 (L5)—memory cache with a projected 8 gigabyte (GB) to 16 GB from a current 1 GB of single core GPU. Finally, to furnish a complete 4K or 8K detail, there is a special video gateway memory below the 8-core or 16-core GPU component.

gpu 8 core

A sample illustration of future development of 8-core or 16-core graphics processing unit (GPU) chip capable to run 4K or 8K resolution 3D animation gaming software.

It’s up for both Nvidia and AMD to follow this concept GPU—together with future enhanced process feature of new DirectX version—whether it is effective to load, process, and run future 4K or 8K resolution 3D animation gaming software content titles very smooth and efficient in seconds without lagging, with a projected rate of trillions of raster resolution fill rate and quadrillion (1 × 1015) 3D texture fill rate. That would work well to function only together with future 8-core or 16-core central processing unit (CPU) chip on competing brands such as Intel and AMD, which may be available for few long years before or after a full roll-out of Super Hi-Vision 8K broadcast in Japan and selected rich countries by 2020.

A Future Affordable Custom-Built DIY Blu-Ray Disc Digital Video Player For Emerging Countries?

May 2, 2014

Over the past (more than) ten years when Sony developed Blu-Ray disc digital video player unit in 2000 capable to play 720p to 1080p high definition (HD) content in MPEG-4 AVC or H.264 format or 4K ultra high definition (UHD) content in MPEG-H HEVC format, the device was slowly sold to some high-income consumers in U.S., Japan, and Europe at about hundreds of thousands of units worldwide. Developing countries like Central and South America (Mexico and Brazil), Africa, and Asia (India, Philippines, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam)—where there were independent of using a conventional DVD video player despite of limitations of the unit such as playing SD video content like 480p or 576p—were not able to buy Blu-Ray player due to big, bulky, expensive electronic components and console software resulting to high price at about U.S $ 800 comparable to desktop or laptop PCs. As affordable China-made 720p to 1080p LCD or LED TV display with sizes at 17-inch, 19-inch, and 23-inch costing at U.S $ 180 to U.S $ 220 available in hypermarkets in 2010 until present, and even home satellite DTV (DVB-S2) and digital cable TV (DVB-C) in separate or combined SD and HD format became locally available in the emerging countries, some medium-income households often wished to avail an affordable Blu-Ray video player, with the same quality and performance from the expensive ones.

In my own idea, there were an unusual concept—unminded to discover by most PC experts—to develop a custom built do-it-yourself (DIY) Blu-Ray digital video player unit similar from a current custom-built DIY PC design unit. The concept requires a single BD-ROM/R/RW disc driver; a motherboard with a combined quad-core CPU (central processing unit), high performance GPU (graphics processing unit) with built-in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, and HEVC video codec, sound driver with Dolby, MP3, PCM, and AAC audio codec, and audio and video outputs; a LED panel indicator; video control buttons on unit; and a Linux OS based digital audio-video player open source software relative to VLC Media Player. (See illustration below.) Instead of steel frame to install these as mentioned, the custom-designed case should be made of heat-resistant, open vent frame, hard plastics.

blu ray disc unit

A sample illustration of do-it-yourself (DIY) blu-ray digital video player unit.

Building an affordable custom-built Blu-Ray player design would be near-half the cost of custom-built DIY PC, projected at about U.S. $ 360. But if this concept to offer for medium-income households to buy would be promising or not, the only remaining problem to solve further is to give (1) a consent for the developer of consumer electronic companies like Sony that built genuine Blu-Ray video player unit for fair and balanced competition and (2) a further enhancement of developing open-source digital audio and video system based from the recent existing patents of audio and video codecs.

A Future Affordable 4K And 8K LCD Or LED DTV Widescreen Display?

April 5, 2014
4k, 8k, uhd, shv

The projected cost of future affordable 4K and 8K LCD or LED video display would be equivalent of a given number of unit of affordable 17-inch 1080p unit.

Here on most urban and suburban centers in the Philippines, various retail stores, mall-based hardware stores, and some wholesale appliance stores such as SM Hypermarket, SM Savemore, Puregold, Ace Hardware, and many others introduced an affordable, genuine China-brand-made or locally-brand-made 720p and 1080p resolution widescreen LCD or LED display priced between Php 8,000 to Php 10,000 on respective sizes 17-inch to 23-inch. Low to medium income Philippine households may be capable to buy those affordable video devices as a replacement of (a near phase-out) conventional CRT analog TV if ever they would engage to watch high definition (HD) video broadcast content in the future, whether a current digital cable TV (DVB-C), digital satellite TV (DVB-S2), or free-to-air digital terrestrial TV (ISDB-T). Of course, they would never need to worry that matter as an alternative from an expensive, large HD display of the past priced at Php 50,000 to Php 150,000 being rolled out in the Philippines in late mid-decade 2000s.

But on today’s latest technology trends, the Philippines—as well as other neighboring developing countries in Central and South America, Africa, and Asia—may not able to engage a new high resolution digital TV resolution standards, such as 4K (Ultra high definition) and 8K (Super Hi-Vision) due to highly-bidded price of LCD or LED display unit at respective Php 1 million to Php 10 million. Are there a possibility that those high resolution video units must be lower down depending on a required affordable electronic components on manufacturing process?

Suppose that to make an affordable, portable 4K LED-backlit LCD display, for example, the unit would be equivalent to an assembled four units of 17-inch 1080p display, to be priced at projectedly Php 32,000. Same with affordable 8K LED-backlit LCD display, for example again, with an equivalent to an assembled sixteen units of 17-inch 1080p display or four times that of affordable 4K display, to be priced at projectedly Php 128,000. (See illustration above.)

The manufacturer responsible to develop affordable 4K and 8K display? Only China-based electronic companies or even some locally-based electronic companies in the Philippines would attempt to do so, if and only if they would give a consent from the developer of genuine 4K and 8K video display units such as Hitachi (8K), Panasonic (4K), Sony (4K), JVC (4K), etc., regarding patent rights and fair trade issue.

Future 4K And 8K Broadcast In The Philippines?

Another concern for most local TV networks in the Philippines are the possibility of broadcasting 4K or 8K digital video content, which are very expensive to operate to shoot, record, and stream compared to an affordable SD digital video content and even a gradual expense HD digital video content. To solve this problem, I suggest, every TV network must try to quit to operate a full power analog TV transmission (such as 50 kilowatts and 60 kilowatts) and fully shift to a low-power DTTV transmitter (such as 100 watts, 250 watts, and 1 kilowatts) in order to save money from high-cost electricity bills. Then the network is up to decide whether they would either remain digital SD or shift to HD, 4K, or 8K depending on desired budget to operate… The projected operation cost of streaming HD, 4K, or 8K broadcast with low-power DTTV transmitter is less than, gradually greater than, or equal to the current operation cost of analog or digital SD broadcast with full-power analog TV transmitter. (See illustration below.)

Twitter Hashtag Trending of ABS-CBN vs GMA-7 TV Shows An Alternative of TV Survey in the Philippines?

November 29, 2013
twitter hashtag trending topic abs cbn gma 7 philippine trends

A graphical re-enactment of Twitter hashtag Philippine trend table, showing that Twitter users who were loyal ABS-CBN and GMA-7 TV viewers create various form of hashtags containing the title of their favorite TV show to post on Twitter message.

If you are a Twitter user living in the Philippines, and once you open Twitter web graphic interface, by surprise or shock you often saw numerous Twitter messages being loyal and supporter of various competing ABS-CBN and GMA-7 TV shows: some appraised, some distracted. The secret? There was a system as part of a major feature of Twitter: to show which “tagged title messages” become the greatest and the lowest. A recent development was about the “greatest and lowest tagged Philippine TV show title Twitter post messages”, reflecting a possible fact about the most popular and most watched Philippine TV shows in reality.

Benefits And Use of Twitter Hashtags

Even though if you use your registered Twitter account and ever refuse to contact and send your short message to another Twitter account via “@Twitterusernameaccount” with a maximum of 140 characters, you might post your short statement with the inclusion of hashtag—in which its purpose is to serve as an instant reference of an important name of event or identity that can be easily search by using a Twitter seach text box on its web interface—by typing a number sign (#) sign followed by a title such as:

  • #nameofevent
  • #nameofperson
  • #nameofplace
  • #nameofmotiveortime
  • #titleofpresentation

There are a variation of hashtag titles being posted on Twitter at present that can be found on the left portion of its web graphical interface. You can note the respective highest to lowest hashtag Twitter post in particular order from first to tenth row, known as trending. When you left-click the hashtag title, you can see that various Twitter messages citing their full praises or distraction in a particular event have include a hashtag.

The Case of Twitter Hashtags of Various Philippine TV Shows

GMA-7 Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, in the recent 2012 Philippine Ad Congress with the theme “Change The Game”, was open to fully aware the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as an alternative tool to monitor the respective number of “likes” and particular top trend hashtag as an actual TV audience count from a loyal GMA-7 TV viewers who were often wise to support various GMA-7 TV shows to watch over conventional CRT analog TV sets from middle-to-lower-class households in the Philippines. ABS-CBN and TV5 were also open to use both Facebook and Twitter aside from their current official website of TV network whose purpose is to post only their latest development of TV show projects, news events, and event caravan; same with the current activity of GMA-7 official website.

Currently, various Philippine TV audience camps of the supporter of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 that often use Twitter have had found many ways to post various forms of Twitter hashtags over Twitter post that reflect the support of competing various TV artists and TV shows in reality. Of course, such activity may often regarded as a “blockbuster popularity level” in terms of TV viewership. The format of posting hashtags based on recent Twitter post under “Philippine trends” category list were as follows:

  • #titleofTVshowepisodeorevent
  • #nameofartistorcasttandem
  • #nameofindividualartist

If you wanted to see a variety of hashtag titles being Twitter posted in the Philippines, simply click “Change” over Twitter hashtag trend table while in “Worldwide Trends” or “US Trends” default and click “Philippines” in order to shift to “Philippine Trends” category. Some hashtag titles under “Philippine Trends” category may have a separate “name of TV shows”, “name of personalities”, and “name of motive or event”.

Featured TV Shows Posted on Trending Twitter Hashtags (2012 to 2013)

ABS-CBN (with lots of trending hashtag): Be Careful With My Heart, Got To Believe, Juan de la Cruz, Showtime, ASAP, The X Factor Philppines, Pilipinas Got Talent, The Voice Philippines

GMA-7 (may or may not have trending hastag): My Husband’s Lover, Protegé Artista, Sunday All Stars

Others: Eat Bulaga* Super Sireyna 2013 Finals (*Note: The TV show is only a blocktimer to GMA-7.)

Visit Google search website and type a search keyword syntaxtitle of TV show Twitter trending topic hashtag” to show the recent image grab taken from Twitpic, Facebook, or various blog page.

Attractive To Media Advertisers?

The criticisms of various media advertising practitioners thought that the trending Twitter hashtags of various ABS-CBN and GMA-7 TV shows do not replace the current operation of competing TV survey agencies such as AGB Nielsen and Kantar TNS, and do not guarantee that the commercial-run TV networks would carry more commission financial gains from the sponsors of various TV ads the growing number of TV households or audience would able to buy feature product items. Another concern—thru the supervision of various entertainment news press being accredited by Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC)—is that the advertisers not only monitor the quality and moral values of various TV shows being controlled by Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and Movie And Television Review And Classification Board (MTRCB) but also an actual transparency of TV audience count on every [current roll-out of free-to-air analog] TV unit in homes and out-of-home (OOH).

So, shall we trust the claimed result of Twitter hashtag trend of competing ABS-CBN and GMA-7 TV shows at present? Whether it is a positive or negative effect in terms of fair competition, and even without using Twitter, what was most important to the Philippine TV audience is to become meticulous on every content of TV shows.

When multimedia messaging service (MMS) was adopted in the Philippines in mid-decade 2000s following a roll-out of 3rd generation GSM-based unit with full graphical color, still image capture, video streaming, and mobile Internet streaming capability, TV networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 went a joint venture with either Smart or Globe to introduce an experimental roll-out of first generation mobile video streaming of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 TV shows with limited quality using an older H.261 video codec with a resolution of 128 x 96 pixels, a frame rate of 12 fps, and a bit rate of 28 kbps. The service was short-lived and discontinued, as most Pinoy Netizens would opt an alternative video streaming service to watch an uploaded videos of either ABS-CBN or GMA-7 TV shows such as YouTube on broadband Internet.

ABS-CBN.com, on one hand, introduced an online premium monthly subscription video streaming service in 2003. Various ABS-CBN TV shows being recorded from local TV broadcast feed use Windows Media Video 9 video codec and encoded with digital rights management (DRM) that can be played on Windows Media Player 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 only by online payment basis to the Internet users. Firstly was ABS-CBN Now!, then TFC Now! by late mid-decade 2000s, and finally the service was seperated between local video streaming service IWanTV.com.ph (exclusively for Sky Broadband and Bayan DSL subscribers) in 2012 and international video streaming service TFC.tv in 2012. Both IWanTV and TFC.tv use DRM-encoded H.264 video codec under Adobe Flash graphics web interface.

Back in mid-decade 2000s (about 2004, 2005, or 2006, I don’t know the exact year it was released) ABS-CBN went a joint venture with Globe Telecom to create a first generation ABS-CBN mobile prepaid SIM, dubbed “Kapamilya” SIM addressing a further affordable GSM-based mobile call and short messaging service (SMS) service rates, but that offer was discontinued due to lower number of subscriptions and because of full majority of competing popular mobile network services. In the second quarter of 2013 ABS-CBN and Globe Telecom collaborate together again a second time to create a second generation ABS-CBN mobile prepaid SIM, not only on affordable GSM mobile call, unlimited SMS, and 4G mobile Internet streaming access but also a mobile video streaming. Yes, that move would attract for most loyal ABS-CBN TV viewers that often miss to watch their favorite TV shows without sacrificing to reach through their traditional TV sets—whether (near defunct) CRT or widescreen LCD/LED/Plasma—at home.

The second generation ABS-CBN mobile prepaid SIM was officially released November 18, 2013 two days after a beneficiary concert for Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan in international code name) victims that hit in Eastern Visayas region, following an official TV ad (featuring various ABS-CBN artists) of a new SIM service version exclusively aired on ABS-CBN main local TV channel. Available in the market at selected stalls, it claimed a bonus service fee at about 1-peso GSM call rates for ABS-CBN SIM-to-ABS-CBN SIM subscribers.

Smartphone And Tablet PC Unit And Mobile Broadband Internet Requirements

In order to access mobile video streaming aside from call, SMS, and Internet browsing, ABS-CBN SIM requires Apple iPhone/iPad, Android OS capable smartphone or tablet PC, Windows Phone OS smartphone, and many other smartphone or tablet PC unit with different OS.

As current fixed broadband Internet such as PLDT myDSL requires desktop PC and even current mobile broadband Internet stick such as Globe, Smart, and Sun require laptop PC, so as second generation ABS-CBN Mobile SIM requires the following list of smartphone and tablet PC units available in the market today:

  • Apple iPhone (4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S or higher version)
  • Apple iPad (3, 4 or higher version)
  • Android OS capable mobile smartphone or tablet PC with latest mobile dual-core or quad-core CPU (MyPhone, Cherry, Torque, Coby, Polaroid, O Plus, StarMobile, Skyworth, etc.)
  • Windows Phone (7 or higher) capable mobile phone (such as Nokia)
  • Other leading consumer electronics brand of mobile smartphone and tablet PC with other OS system (Sony Xperia, Samsung Galaxy, LG, Acer, etc.)

The above mentioned smartphone and tablet PC units must have a built-in HSPDA (3 Mbps or 7.5 Mbps) internal mobile broadband Intenet 4G network modem as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (100 Mbps or higher) capable to receive mobile video and Internet streaming. However, use of older version of Apple iPhone or iPad or older Android OS capable or other OS smartphone or tablet PC unit without 4G network—even conventional GSM-based mobile phone unit of the past—was not accessible.

Promo Access Mobile Video And Broadband Internet Streaming

Want to enjoy promo rates on mobile video streaming and Internet surfing, as shown on poster on some stalls that avail ABS-CBN Mobile SIM? LEFT CLICK THE SCREEN TO ENLARGE FOR DETAILS. (From left of the poster: characters from daytime family drama “Be Careful With My Heart”, used with permission of ABS-CBN.)

Just as most present mobile phone networks in the Philippines such as Smart, Talk n Text, Globe, Touch Mobile, and Sun that offer SMS registration-based promo call, SMS, and mobile Internet services at affordable service fee, various smartphone or tablet PC users that use 2nd generation ABS-CBN mobile SIM may key in the following SMS syntax with respective feature promo Internet and video streaming access service fee and send to 2135:

  • For 15 pesos loaded prepaid fee subscription, KOL15 (30 MB iWanTV mobile video streaming and mobile Internet streaming, 1-day validity, unlimited iWanTV mobile video streaming via Wi-Fi)
  • For 20 pesos loaded prepaid fee subscription, KOL20 (45 MB iWanTV mobile video streaming and mobile Internet streaming, 1-day validity, unlimited iWanTV mobile video streaming via Wi-Fi)
  • For 50 pesos loaded prepaid fee subscription, KOL50 (120 MB iWanTV mobile video streaming and mobile Internet streaming, 5-day validity, unlimited iWanTV mobile video streaming via Wi-Fi)

If they did not use promo access system by SMS registration, then they would opt 1 peso per 1 MB mobile video or Internet streaming service fee, free from 800 MB Internet streaming promo service limit that would disable Internet access for 1 day mainly because it was Globe-powered service just like Globe Tatoo mobile Internet promo rates.

Mobile Video Streaming Specifications

The official website of second generation ABS-CBN Mobile SIM access did not mention an actual specifications of mobile video streaming to play various ABS-CBN TV shows currently in standard definition (SD) format 480i at default, but because of 1 peso per 1 MB and basic promo service charge access giving basic digital video quality content here is my own predicted specification:

  • Video codec: H.264
  • Video resolution: 320 x 240 pixels
  • Video aspect ratio: 4:3
  • Video frame rate: 12 fps
  • Video bit rate: 140 to 180 kbps
  • Audio codec: AAC
  • Audio frequency range: up to 14,000 Hz
  • Audio track: Mono
  • Audio bit rate: 10 to 15 kbps

If ABS-CBN would switch from SD to high definition (HD) format 720p or 1080i once the roll-out of ISDB-T DTTV transmission will fully commercialize, then the mobile video streaming content would possibly change from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 aspect ratio depending on reconfiguring a given resolution and frame rates and even service fee rates.

Other Mobile Videostreaming Service?

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) had been approved to roll-out the second generation ABS-CBN mobile SIM, mainly because its system was stable during test run of mobile video streaming and Internet access except for roaming. No related issue of possible radio interference among other mobile broadband Internet service as well as GSM calls and SMS/MMS.

As of this writing, there were no available, possible speculation via reliable sources that TV networks TV5 and GMA-7 would imitate the concept from ABS-CBN mobile service currently negotiating with Globe Telecom that operates nationwide 4G network service. If ever, for example, both of the two aforementioned TV networks would do this in reality, then they would run on Smart or Sun 4G network, with the same service rate as that of ABS-CBN mobile but with different SIM configuration and different SMS registration on promo mobile Internet and videostreaming.

There seems to be a form of “duopoly” for negotiating between a TV network and a leading mobile network in the Philippines, depending on a possible impact to offer for many people who have had on their side of favorite local TV channel in the Philippines. The Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) will keep monitoring the behavior of competing local TV channels together with their own mobile videostreaming service aside from conventional analog TV broadcast, in spite of deferment of KBP-member by GMA-7.

Mobile Analog TV And ISDB-T One-Seg DTV Stream Service

And if ever the roll-out of second generation ABS-CBN mobile SIM and even possible speculation of future roll-out of a SIM made by GMA-7 and TV5 offering mobile videostreaming would not be successful, there were an alternative to watch various local TV channels such as the use of built-in analog TV tuner on most Philippine-made dual-SIM mobile phone models such as MyPhone, Cherry Mobile, Torque, Star Mobile, etc. Secondly, various local TV networks would expect an upcoming roll-out of combined full-segment and one-segment ISDB-T transmission compatible for built-in ISDB-T tuner on most portable digital devices such as smartphones, tablet PC, and portable gaming consoles, to be launched by 2014 or 2015 before the switch-over from analog TV broadcast to DTV service on December 31, 2015.

An Alternative To DVB-T2 Being Only Favored by GMA Network In The Philippines

July 18, 2013

GMA Network was the only TV station that only favors DVB-T2 based from the recommended order of ASEAN that supports the new European DTTV platform through selected south-east Asian countries currently assigning 7 to 8 MHz TV channel bandwidth and 50 Hz AC power. After a numerous times of having a delaying tactics to further freeze out the rollout of adopted ISDB-T transmission and receivers in the Philippines for a review between the two DTTV standards, GMA failed to force the grant of using the European DTV platform to NTC since it was not tested for 6 MHz TV channel bandwidth and 60 Hz AC power under the current 525-line NTSC analog TV transmission due to a possible interference to all forms of radio service.

So what are the better alternative DTTV platforms that succeed DVB-T2 in order to assign on most countries like the Philippines that have 6 MHz TV channel bandwidth and 60 Hz AC power? Here the two shortlist:

  • Higher-Level QAM on 2nd Generation ISDB-T Variant (ISDB-T2). In 2011 state-run broadcaster NHK introduced a new variant of high-level quadruple amplitude modulation (QAM) such as 1024QAM and 4096QAM and an improved low-cost high performance error correction system such as concatenated low density parity check (LDPC) (developed by various Japanese scientist of NHK Science Labs) with bit rates at about 78 Mbps per 6 MHz RF bandwidth, nearly twice as that of 40 Mbps on conventional 256QAM of DVB-T2. That rate was just enough to accomodate sixteen Full HD (1080p) subchannels at 4.5 Mbps, four UHDTV (4K resolution) subchannels at 18 Mbps, and one SHV (8K resolution) subchannels at 72 Mbps in MPEG-H HEVC video codec format. The actual structure of 2nd generation ISDB-T, though its first prototype consisting of two sets of 6 MHz UHF TV channels was used, was not yet finalized, but probably—if finalized—it would be nearly the same as that of first generation ISDB-T consisting of a segmented 6 MHz “middle-right-middle-left” transmission scan pattern. (CLICK HERE FOR MY BLOG FOR DETAILS OR CHECK OUT FROM NHK SHV DOCUMENTATION.)
  • Reconfigured DVB-T2 Variant For 6 MHz Bandwidth (ATSC 3.0). In February of 2013 the ATSC Group introduced a prototype of reconfigured 256QAM signal based from DVB-T2 in order to make a stable transmission under 6 MHz channel bandwidth and 60 Hz AC power. Before they bagan a 4K video test broadcast using that platform prototype by means of calibration method, the FCC ordered all current first generation ATSC broadcast on every TV networks to shut down for 4 hours (from 12 midnight to 4 a.m.)  in order to prevent interference during testing. The resulting rate was about only 24 Mbps from the targeted 32 Mbps due to an annoying signal noise and even some erring calculating performance. By the end of 3rd quarter of 2013, the group would announce the required configuration of ATSC 3.0 using only an even higher level QAM (rather than using 256QAM, 1024QAM, and 4096QAM) and even an improved error-correction system in order to increase a bit rate at projectedly more than 80 Mbps per 6 MHz band in forward transmission scan. (Source: BroadcastEngineering.com, AdvancedTelevision.com)

Both of these new DTTV standards succeeding DVB-T2, seperated on designated countries such as Japan for ISDB-T and U.S. for ATSC, would take a few years to develop before rolling out both the transmitter and the receiver in the near future. We would ever wish that GMA Network, of which they often focus to discover an advanced high-end DTTV transmission technology aside from their current full-power analog TV transmission for years, should ever try these two rather than using the European standard to prevent any problem.

As of now, the KBP and the NTC are waiting for signing a final draft of IRR of the use of Philippine variant ISDB-T to president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino later before the end of 2013 or in 2014 as part of the planned official rollout of ISDB-T on the target date of 2014 or 2015 and a planned analog TV broadcast switch-off (ASO) on December 31, 2015. After this, the NTC would start the second assesstment of the two new standard as mentioned above together (aside from the proposed rollout of 5G-based wireless IPTV network on the year 2018), for that would be a part of the proposed 8K broadcast depending of the favor of various TV networks in the Philippines.

Fact Or Fallacy? The Main Secret of Digital Video Content of Full Segment 6 MHz UHF TV Channel Bandwith of ISDB-T Transmission

May 18, 2013

Reminder: To Wikipedia web user contributors (and even the reader), don’t (trust to) post about a typical speculative thoughts or opinion of my statement on this blog to your article mainly because it may not so accurate that was not based on reliable sources.

isdb-t, 8k, shv, super hi vision

A sample diagram of a possible configuration of second generation ISDB-T in the near future based from the latest 8K SHV encoder developed by Mitsubishi Electric as of May 2013.

Japan was the only country that uses a sole variant of digital terrestrial television (DTTV) platform called Integrated Services for Digital Broadcasting–Terrestrial (ISDB-T). As compared to other platforms such as Digital Video Broadcast–Terrestrial (DVB-T) in Europe, Africa, Australia, and selected Asian countries, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) in North and Central America, including South Korea and Taiwan, and Digital Multimedia Broadcast–Terrestrial (DMB-T) in China and Hong Kong [to be discontinued in the future?], including South Korea and Taiwan, ISDB-T uses a combined action of DVB-T and DVB-H assigned on UHF band, giving more robust and more flexible transmission. The aforementioned Japanese DTV platform was now currently adopted in South America, Philippines, and Maldives.

First generation ISDB-T transmission under a standard 6 MHz UHF TV channel bandwidth consists a total of 13 segments under 16QAM and 64QAM digital modulaton, 12-segment for full HD DTV content and one-segment for mobile DTV transmission. Second generation ISDB-T transmission designed for Super Hi-Vision (SHV) or 8K resolution (7680 x 4320) DTV broadcast, on the other hand, uses higher-level digital modulation such as 1024QAM and 4096QAM, compared to 256QAM used in second generation DVB-T transmission (DVB-T2). An actual structure of second generation ISDB-T transmission under 6 MHz UHF TV channel bandwidth—currently under development after the successful transmission prototype using two UHF channels in Tokyo in 2012—was still unknown.

An additional specific details of the said platform was not publicized in public, but only a known Japanese experts that invented the prototype were responsible to hold confidential development. As I guessed in my thought accordingly on the following illustration but not based on actual reliable sources, each segment of the total 12 segments on first generation ISDB-T may contain a small resolution at about 480 x 360 pixels running on conventional MPEG-2 video codec, forming a full HD content of 1920 x 1080 pixels when combined an entire segments in proper “tagging” of sequence of video image pieces just like solving a jigsaw puzzle.

isdbt

Diagram of a segmented 6MHz channel bandwidth of a first generation ISDB-T transmission compatible for 480p, 720p, and 1080i format.

The concept of a segmented 720p (6-segment 426 x 360 pixels) or 1080i (12-segment 480 x 360 pixels) digital video structure used in first generation ISDB-T transmission may be based on conventional standard definition (SD) video wall being rolled out in 1980s and 1990s, in which it consists of a specialized digital console in order to divide the original 525-line NTSC (480i) or 625-line PAL (576i) analog video resolution into a separate 16 set of frame details of respective 180 x 120 pixels or 180 x 144 pixels before projecting through a separate 16 sets of SD CRT projectors. That technique was the same with the recent demonstration of displaying 16 sets of 1080p digital video image consisting of an actual 16-set full HD video camera shooting scene to form an 8K resolution format in the middle of decade 2000s, for which it would be possibly reflect on this visionary posted on this blog.

One of the recent development of experimental 8K Super Hi Vision digital video signal as of May 2013 was the 17-row MPEG-H HEVC encoder circuitry board cabinet developed by Mitsubishi Electric together with NHK. (CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD IN PDF FORMAT FOR DETAILS) Each board from that unit may contain an encoded video with a resolution of 7680 X 256 pixels for rows 1 to 16 and 7680 X 224 pixels for row 17, and then they sandwiched to form an 8K resolution image. If ever the  NHK together with ARIB and DiBEG would develop a final prototype of signal structure of second generation ISDB-T, I wish they should try this latest sample illustration as I thought to speculate as shown above, containing a total of 17 segments for 8K resolution, a 31.1 MHz segment containing AAC stereo audio codec, a 300 KHz one-segment (s0) containing 1080p digital video content, and 600 KHz segment containing (proposed prototype) Dolby 22.1 stereo surround audio codec under 6 MHz UHF TV channel bandwidth. If 8K broadcast would not be used, then second generation ISDB-T may accomodate (1) four subchannel 4K resolution for rows 1 to 16 and 720p resolution for row 17 or (2) sixteen subchannel 1080p resolution for rows 1 to 16 and 720p resolution for row 17.

isdb-t

Speculative possible configuration of 2nd generation ISDB-T under 6 MHz UHF TV channel bandwidth, accomodating one 8K Super Hi Vision subchannel, four 4K UHDTV subchannel, or 16 1080p and one 720p subchannel.

How I wish they would develop an actual, final design of segmented 6 MHz UHF TV channel bandwidth of second generation ISDB-T transmission before the target year of 2020 when 8K broadcast would start. Whether my statement is either a fact or fallacy about first generation ISDB-T, and maybe a possibility about a second generation ISDB-T platform in reality, this blog is open to post their comment for a correction of facts as shown below.
